General Info

Tucked away at 15a Sasegbon St in Ikeja GRA, Essence By The Grid immediately gives off a relaxed yet thoughtfully curated vibe that feels perfect for both casual meetups and slow weekend brunches. From the moment you step in, the space feels accessible and welcoming, with a wheelchair accessible entrance that makes it easy for everyone to enjoy what the restaurant has to offer. The layout is comfortable without being crowded, and the atmosphere leans toward a laid-back dining experience where you can actually take your time with the menu.

What stands out quickly is how diverse the food selection feels without being overwhelming. On one visit, the Hangla Rice and Plantain delivered a rich, satisfying balance of flavors, with the sweetness of the plantain complementing the savory depth of the rice. Another highlight that kept things interesting was the Chicken Masala and Rice, which had a warm, spiced profile that felt both hearty and well-portioned. If you’re in the mood for something more familiar, the Beef Burger and French Fries come out fresh and filling, while the Presto Pasta offers a lighter but still comforting option that works well for lunch.

The drink selection also deserves attention, especially the Vanilla Milkshake. It’s smooth, creamy, and just indulgent enough to round out a meal without feeling too heavy. For those who prefer lighter or plant-based choices, the availability of vegetarian options adds a nice layer of flexibility to the menu, making it easier to accommodate different preferences within a group.

Service here feels efficient but not rushed, which is ideal whether you’re dining in or opting for takeout. The option to make reservations is a practical touch, especially during busier hours when the restaurant tends to attract a steady flow of guests. During brunch, the place has a slightly livelier energy, with tables filling up quickly as people gather for relaxed conversations over good food.

What makes Essence By The Grid memorable isn’t just one standout dish but the overall consistency across the experience. The menu is approachable, the setting feels comfortable, and the service supports a smooth dining rhythm. It’s the kind of spot where you can return and try something different each time, while still knowing the quality will hold up.

What customers say?

“ Loved the waiters & waitresses. Very convenient and conducive environment for work meetings and brunches. Although I was accidentally overcharged and had to wait 3 weeks for a refund which threw me off. Asides that, good food & space! Budget for 2 people should be 30k + ”

“ It's an overall nice place for an intimate date if it's not fully packed because it's quite a small space. Food tastes really good especially the seafood pasta I just wish there were more than just 3 piece of prawns (the small size) in it. The staff are nice and welcoming so customer service is good. Budget for two should be from N25,000. ”

“ This was part of my saved list so it was finally good to visit. Had dinner as a trio. There was some road work ongoing which made driving in a bit tricky but glad it was being done. Parking was a breeze. Loved how they've utilised the space and the vibe is very intimate on entry. Different lighting zones would match your mood. The music was just the right volume and vibe . I had the Virgin daiquiri and i enjoyed it! The tropical smoothie and strawberry & banana smoothie were great as well. One of us had the hangla rice and plantain to go while we both had the mozzarella chicken burger and beef burger. They both came with French fries and we enjoyed it. Nothing like a really good messy burger . The food did not take longer than expected. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The restroom was also kept clean which is something I always appreciate. Its a lovely place to visit on the mainland. ”

“ Located at Ikeja GRA, The grid has a nice ambiance and great staff. The food came quite late but was worth the wait eventually. The only thing I didn’t like was the cheesecake (which was the last available piece that day). Everything else was great, as evidenced by my plates Although space is limited and several customers had to leave as there was nowhere to seat. For lunch, a great time to arrive is 12 pm -1 pm on weekends. ”

“ Found this place via a TikTok review video, I was really skeptical cos as usual Lagos restaurant and disappointed but to my very fortunate surprise, I really really love this place. 1. Ambiance & Atmosphere: the place is not big but I love it, it is a small, cozy and intimate setting, perfect for date night or dining with your spouse/partner. Perfect lighting, perfect seats and table, the minimalist wall colors and aesthetic and low, slow background music, 10/10 2. Food: the food tastes so good. You know the usual good ambiance bad food combination for Lagos restaurant, this is not it at all. Food was on point, the drinks too , cocktails etc. 3. Service and Cost: the service was great, very well behaved and friendly staff. The background music was so good I had to ask for the playlist and they were really friendly and shared. For the price I would say it's fair. It's your average quality restaurant price. The drinks are under N4000, the food price ranges from N4000 to N20000 plus, there is something for everyone. ”

“ The ambiance is fit for intimate and cozy couples. Cool music seeping through like it's not there. The staff is friendly and prompt and the location is easy to find. The food wasn't so nice so I rate it a 3 star. Aesthetically pleasing for pictures. Not so pricey. 20k can get a good meal for two. ”

“ This place is amazing. I’ll start with the ambience. It was cozy and warm. The service is top notch. The pricing is super affordable and they have options for parties of 4. The food? A proper 9 out of 10. The seafood pasta is so delicious and creamy, and you can have it with a tomato base. It was so good, I ordered another serving for takeout. The smoothie was heaven. It glided so smooth into my mouth and those chicken tenders? Oh goodness gracious. The cheesecake was literal perfection and I encourage everyone to get it when you visit. Essence by the Grid has really done something for themselves and I applaud them. I’ll definitely be going back and eat that seafood pasta. ”

- Divine Akporaye -

“ The food was simply amazing. Tried their Chef Bobotie and their sides too. The major thing for me here was that the Customer Service which was Excellent and Polite. Ambience was OK with low music. One may also have to reserve in advance depending on the day of the week and number of people as there may not be luxury of space. There's also a service charge of about 10% or so. You could easily spend about 50k here for 2 persons. But ~30k should do. Depending on the drinks and sides taken. Nice location. ”
